CurriculumStudents at all levels currently take advantage of rich interdisciplinary course offerings to design their own individual majors or pursue special committee M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Visual Culture. We host an active Visual Culture Student Focus Group whose members meet regularly to discuss readings, plan events and curate exhibitions. Students with an interest in Visual Culture work closely with our Visual Culture faculty affiliates on individualized programs of study. The Center for Visual Cultures is in the process of planning to launch a new Ph.D. Graduate students who enter into an existing degree-granting department can choose to complete a distributed minor in visual culture by taking courses with visual culture faculty affiliates in other departments, or they may choose to design and complete a special committee degree. A special committee degree is based out of the student's home department, but specializes uniquely in visual culture, which allows even wider access to visual culture coursework across departments and programs. The benefit of the networked, paradisciplinary structure of our program is that graduate students will leave the program with both a firm grounding in a discipline and comprehensive theoretical and methodological training in Visual Culture Studies as a trans-disciplinary practice.
