Curational Practice in Alternative Spaces
Lecture by Ute Ritschel

Tuesday October 17th
5:30pm
Morgridge Auditorium (Room 1100)
Grainger Hall

Ute Ritschel is an independent curator from Darmstadt, Germany. Since 1995 she has curated her own art projects in public and partly-public spaces. Most of her exhibitions, performance events, and Eat-Art works are
site-specific and shown outdoors. The Darmstadt Garden and Art Biannual "Vogelfrei" happened in 38 privat gardens in 2005 under the theme of "ParadiseGardens". The "International Forest Art Path" is a 3,3 km walking
path in a centrally located forest. The 2006 theme was "Laboratory" - a cooperation between artists and scientists. These exhibitions are made for a broad and diverse audience and often evoke the sense of discovery.

Besides presenting her curational work, Ute Ritschel will talk about the upcoming seminar "Alternative Curational Practice" and the connected symposium on "Native and Invasive", which will happen in the Spring Term of
2007. She would like to invite students of diverse artistic and theoretical backgrounds.
