This two-part exhibition focuses on visual cultural production by artists that engage from a diasporic space, and addresses the fragmentation and disconnect that occurs while engaging from the marginal space of diaspora. The Diaspora exhibition brigns together, for the first time in Madison, WI, artists with diasporic identities rooted in such diverse cultural identities as Indian, Korean, Thai, Puerto Rican, Japanese, Mexican, Nicaraguan, Greek and American. In attempting to integrate two or more cultural heritages, these works are a poignant commentary on the phenomenon of trans-culturation.

Curated by Pritika Chowdhry, MFA candidate, UW Madison.
